Northwest peeps: a string of shows featuring The Need (reunited!), Bangs (reunited!), C Average, and Thrones will be happening July 21st-23rd to benefit Team Natalie. Check out all the deets here. Natalie Cox has long been a fixture of the Northwest punk scene- playing in bands, working at Kill Rock Stars, booking shows, etc. She has a rare form of cancer and all proceeds from the shows will go towards her treatment. You can also donate via her blog. Spread the word!

Last night I went to Synchronicity Space to see Dunes and Neverever. It was my first time there, and first time seeing both bands. Firsts! Dunes, as I’ve posted before, are awesome. And they had flashlights for the audience to wave around! Neverever, were probably the stars of the evening though, judging by the number of folks there to see ‘em. And an eclectic bunch of folks they were. Which was totally awesome! Dudes with skeleton jackets! Girls in leotards affixed with felt hamburgers! Folks that looked like they belonged on Garbage Dress! And of course the usual menagerie of hipsters and punk rock kids. So what’s Neverever’s appeal? Just take a look.

Jihae channels Ronnie Spector and Beach Blanket Bingo. Wallace brings the Scottish indie pop charm. And Jackson, Joey, and Jessica are the happiest musicians I have ever seen on stage. Smiles for miles. (Plus they were super nice in the bathroom line.)

Took the little sis to see Best Coast and HEALTH last night. It was really cool to see her get behind something other than college stoner jams. Best Coast was fun until about 5 boyfriend-themed songs in, when I wanted to start quoting Adrienne Rich re: compulsive coupling and gender dynamics. Don’t we as women have anything better to write songs about then dudes? HEALTH kicked my ass, however. I’d never really been able to get into their recorded stuff, but live…DAMN! I kept trying to think of non-creepy ways of asking them to join my (as of now strictly imaginary) band Catfriendliness.

“We Are Water” vid directed by Eric Wareheim (yes, of Tim and Eric notoriety). Note to all psychos: this is why you don’t chase girls with a machete.
